According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, Hume was traveling in a vehicle operated by her 18-year-old sister, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and went down a steep incline. The younger teen was leaning out the window at the time of the incident and made contact with a utility pole that ejected her from the vehicle.

Authorities say they are investigating if ‘cell phone use’ may have been a factor in the crash.

According to early reports, Hume was occupying a vehicle traveling in the 4500 block of West 113th Avenue in Crown Point, when the vehicle wrecked Saturday night around 10 p.m.

Hume was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries.
