HALIFAX COUNTY, NC. (THECOUNT) — Latrice Avent, of Halifax, North Carolina, has been identified as the victim in a fatal Friday night double-shooting in Halifax County.
Avent, 27, was fatally shot in Halifax Friday night. Shermanda Louise Taylor, 30, of Halifax, was taken into custody and charged in the deadly incident that also injured an unidentified man.
According to reports, officials responded to a call of shots fired in the 5000 block of US-301, in Halifax. Upon arrival, police found a man and a woman suffering from apparent gunshot wounds around 11:30 p.m. Friday.
Avent was pronounced dead at the scene of gunshot injuries.
The male victim was transported to an area hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. He was last listed in critical condition.
Taylor is facing one count of murder and one count of attempted murder.
The cause of the shooting remains under investigation.
