HARNETT COUNTY, NC. (THECOUNT) — Matthew Eugene Rathburn, of Sanford, North Carolina, has been identified as the victim in a Friday morning double-fatal vehicle crash in Harnett County.
Rathburn, 52, was killed along with another individual in a two-vehicle crash near Sanford friday morning.
According to reports, Rathburn was operating a GMC pickup on NC-87 near Olivia Road, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and into opposing lanes around 6 a.m. Friday. The vehicle then made head-on contact with a Nissan pickup.
Both drivers were killed in the crash. The Nissan driver has not yet been identified.
Rathburn was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
