HARRIS COUNTY, TX. (THECOUNT) — Luis Luna, of Houston, Texas, has been identified as the suspect in the brutal murder of his 9-month-old daughter in Harris County last week.

Luna, 23, was arrested after his toddler daughter was found unresponsive last week in Houston.

According to officials, deputies responded to a Houston apartment building on reports of an unresponsive child. The infant was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Luna was later charged with sexually assaulting the baby who doctors determined during an autopsy died of asphyxiation. They found the baby girl had been sexually assaulted and died due to asphyxiation during the assault.

Detectives interviewed Luna, who is the girl’s father, and determined he was responsible for her death.

Luna now faces a charge of capital murder.
