PITT COUNTY, NC. (THECOUNT) — Miranda Artis, of Grifton, North Carolina, has been identified as one of three people killed in a Tuesday night crash in Pitt County.

Artis, 29, was killed along with three other individuals, in a single-vehicle crash near Greenville Tuesday night. A fourth person, identified as 31-year-old Sammie Madlock of Greenville, was hospitalized with unknown injuries.

According to reports, Artis was traveling as a passenger in a Nissan Altima on Davis Street near West 6th Street in Greenville, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and exited the roadway around 10 p.m. Tuesday. The vehicle then traveled through a field before coming into contact with a substantial tree.

The force of the crash caused at least one vehicle occupant to be ejected.

Artis, a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries.

Madlock was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The names of the other involved victims are being held pending notification of kin.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
