ROCK ISLAND COUNTY, IL. (THECOUNT) — Hampton Police Chief Terry Engle has been identified as the victim in a fatal Saturday night crash in Rock Island County.
Engle, 57, was killed in an on-duty police vehicle crash Saturday night near Hampton, Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson confirmed Sunday morning.
According to reports, Engle was on-duty while responding to a call Saturday in the area of Illinois Route 84 northbound at 180th Street North in Hampton, when for unknown reasons, his cruiser crossed centerlines and exited the roadway around 7 p.m. The vehicle then made contact with a substantial tree.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
