PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA. (THECOUNT) — Robert Lee Bennett Jr, of Sutherlin, Virginia, has been identified as the victim in a fatal single-vehicle crash in Pittsylvania Friday afternoon.
Bennett, 70, was killed in a single-vehicle crash near Sutherlin Friday afternoon.
According to officials, Bennett was operating a vehicle on Laurel Grove Road near Rogers Road in Sutherlin, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and exited the roadway around 1:50 p.m. Friday. The vehicle then made contact with a substantial tree.
Bennett, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
