CLINTON, IA. (THECOUNT) — Iowa man, Jacob Dau, who forced the lockdown of a Clinton Walmart in 2018, has been killed following a high-speed police chase Tuesday night.

Dau, 38, was fatally shot by a Clinton police officer as the officer attempted to stop Dau’s vehicle during a high-speed chase Tuesday night.

Police say, the unidentified officer opened fire while attempting to disable a vehicle driven by Dau Tuesday night near the intersection of N 2nd St & 4th Ave N about 10:45 p.m.

At some point, Dau was fatally struck by police gunfire.

Dau was pronounced dead of gunshot injuries at the scene.

In 2018, Dau was wanted for warrants when he entered a Clinton Walmart while being pursited by police. The incident caused a lockdown of the business.

Dau was also arrested in February 2020:

The shooting is under investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations and the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner.
