HINDS COUNTY, MS. (THECOUNT) — Jody Wayne Chapin, of Vicksburg, Mississippi, has been identified as the victim in a fatal two-vehicle crash Sunday night in Hinds County.
Chapin, 38, was killed in a crash involving a big-rig Sunday on Interstate 20 near Bolton.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Chapin was operating a Dodge pickup truck on I-20, when for unknown reasons, the pickup crossed centerlines and into opposing lanes around 11:15 Sunday night. The vehicle then came into contact with a stopped tractor-trailer.
The driver of the 18-wheeler, who was located outside his rig at the time of the collision, was struck by debris. He was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A passenger located inside the rig was uninjured.
Chapin was pronounced dead of injuries suffered in the crash.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
