ONEIDA COUNTY, NY. (THECOUNT) — Longtime animal activist, Kim Strong, former head of Lainey’s Army, has been found dead in an apparent suicide.

Strong, 47, who was the operator of the Road to Home dog rescue in Utica, New York, was arraigned this month on charges of grand larceny, scheme to defraud and two counts of criminal tax fraud in relation to operation of the shelter.

Oneida County District Attorney Scott McNamara confirmed the suicide.

Via WIBX:

Strong herself was recently under fire amid an investigation into a shelter she ran on Broad Street in East Utica where more than 100 dogs were found in living in filthy conditions, bound in cages for hours on end.

That investigation prompted felony charges of grand larceny and scheme to defraud, and tax charges for not collecting or remitting sales tax, and not paying income tax, McNamara said.

Strong had been arraigned on those charges earlier this month.

A manner of death was not provided.
