NELSON COUNTY, VA. (THECOUNT) — Veronica Jones, of Monroe, VA, has been identified as the victim in a fatal Sunday night single-vehicle crash in Nelson County.
Jones, 58, was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Massies Mill around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday night.
According to officials, Jones was operating a vehicle on Patrick Henry Highway, near Fishertown Lane, when for unknown reasons, she crossed centerlines and exited the roadway. The vehicle the made contact with a highway sign, an embankment and a pile of logs, before coming to a rest after hitting an utility pole.
Jones was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.
She was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the violent crash.
Police are asking anyone who might have been traveling in the area between 8:20 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. and may have witnessed the crash to call 434-352-7128 or email area18@vsp.virginia.gov, reports WSET.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
