PIKESVILLE, MD. (THECOUNT) — Joel Hopkins, of Nottingham, Maryland, has been identified as the pedestrian fatally struck on I-695 Tuesday morning in Pikesville.
Hopkins, 35, was on-foot when he was struck and killed by a Mercedes on Interstate 695 near Pikesville on Tuesday.
According to troopers, officers responded to reports of a pedestrian versus vehicle around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday on I-695 in Pikesville. When officials arrived they found a body lying injured on the shoulder of the highway.
The driver of a Mercedes was traveling north on I-695, just south of I-795, says he felt something strike the left side of his car.
Hopkins was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of blunt force trauma.
Officials said drugs, alcohol nor speeding appear to have played a role in the crash, reports WBAL.
The Mercedes driver remained on the scene and fully cooperated with officials.
Investigators are unclear why Hopkins was on the highway at the time of the crash.
The deadly incident remains under investigation.
