CAHOKIA, IL. (THECOUNT) — Dexter Byrd has been identified as the teenager fatally shot in Cahokia late Tuesday night.
Byrd, 19, was found suffering from fatal gunshot wounds after Greater St. Louis officials responded to an apparent shooting on Range Lane late Tuesday.
According to reports, Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis was activated following a shooting in the 300 block of Range Lane Tuesday just before midnight. Police say they found Byrd mortally wounded with gunshot wounds to his abdomen while laying in the front yard area of a residence.
Neighbor said they heard at least 5 gunshots, reports KMOV.
Byrd was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of gunshot injuries.
The investigation into the deadly incident is ongoing.
