Tsunami Warning Issued After Powerful 7.7-Magnitude Earthquake Slams Jamaica Tuesday

JAMAICA. (THECOUNT) — A tsunami warning has been issued for Jamaica, Cuba and the Cayman Islands following a large magnitude 7.7 Earthquake that struck the area Tuesday afternoon, according to the USGS.

Tsunami Advisory Region: 117km NW of Lucea, Jamaica, Risk: medium, Magnitude: 7.7, Local time: 14:10, Maybe affected: Caribbean Sea.

There is no word on injuries or damage at this time.

The quake struck about 70 miles from Granma, Cuba and was centered near Montego Bay, St. James, Jamaica.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center is yet to issue a written warning.
