FAIRFIELD, IA. (THECOUNT) — Richard Boyd, of Fairfield, Iowa, has been identified as the victim in a fatal two-vehicle collision in Fairfield early Friday morning.

Boyd, 50, died following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 1 south of Fairfield around 1:10 a.m. Friday.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Boyd was operating a vehicle on Highway 1 in Fairfield, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and into opposing lanes. The vehicle then collided with a KIA head-on.

Boyd was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.

Troopers say he was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the violent crash.

The 28-year-old driver in the KIA also did not have a seatbelt on at the time. He went to the hospital though there was no word on his condition, reports KCRG.

The KIA driver has not been identified.

State Patrol said the crash is still under investigation.
