POWHATAN POINT, OH. (THECOUNT) — Joshua Roberts, of Meadville, PA, has been identified as the suspect in a fatal Thursday police-involved shooting near Powhatan, OH, on Thursday.
Roberts, 41, was shot and killed by Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers after he allegedly held Greenville, PA woman, Kristin Bielobocky McCoy, at gunpoint.
The deadly incident unfolded after a lengthy police chase that topped 100 mph, authorities said.
The shooting occurred Thursday morning along Ohio Route 7 in Belmont County.
According to troopers, the chase began in Monroe County after troopers checked a license plate on an SUV at a rest area in Monroe County and discovered the vehicle had been stolen in Pennsylvania, reports WPXI.
Troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the SUV operated by 34-year-old McCoy.
A high-speed chase commenced at speeds of more than 100 mph until SUV ran over spiked stop sticks and crashed into a guardrail.
After initially refusing to leave the vehicle, Roberts emerged from the SUV holding McCoy at gunpoint. The troopers shot him when Roberts ignored orders to drop his gun and continued to approach them. McCoy was grazed in the shoulder by the troopers’ gunfire, Cvetan said.
Roberts was pronounced dead at the scene of gunshot injuries.
McCoy was jailed in Belmont County on an arrest warrant and will likely face charges, Cvetan said.

Joshua was a friend of mine and loved by many. He deserves nothing less than sympathy and that woman should have been killed with him. Hear me out before forming opinions based on his actions, though bad, not entirely what is appears. In eight months time, from the first date with her until his untimely death this woman pushed all his friends away, got him hooked on heroin (never did it the entire time I knew him until she showed up), got him arrested, kicked out of his apartment rendering him homeless and now dead. We tried to talk sense into him. NOBODY liked her. But his love for her (or his intolerable loneliness) superseded over our desperate council. She is a bad seed and nothing less. I think the truth will come out that she orchestrated the carjacking and it would be her idea that he put the gun to her head in order to play victim. He would do it to save her figuring he has nothing left to lose. She is a snake. We love you Josh. God Bless you gentle Giant. We miss you.
