WALTERBORO, SC. (THECOUNT) — Kim & Lauren Drawdy have been identified as the victims killed after being mistaken for a deer while hunting in South Carolina, according to authorities.
Kim Drawdy, 30 and his daughter, 9-year-old Lauren, were shot dead Wednesday when they were mistaken for deer while on a hunting trip in Walterboro on Wednesday.
According to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, they are investigating a pair of hunters following the tragic New Year’s Day incident.
According to DNR, four hunters were attempting to move deer, also known as driving deer, on Barracada Road in Walterboro when two hunters opened fire on the father and daughter.
Both victims died at the scene from gunshot injuries.
Colleton County Fire Rescue said the victims were discovered about a half-mile off the road Wednesday afternoon.
Coroner Harvey said an autopsy will be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina.
Authorities have not said if any arrests have been made or if charges will be filed, reports WBTW.
New Year’s Day was the last day of the hunting season in South Carolina.
