CHICAGO, IL. (THECOUNT) — Lafayette Hodges has been identified as the suspect charged in the shooting death of Lyniah Bell, the Michigan State University student who was killed Friday evening at a Chatham apartment.
Hodges, 18, who was pictured crying in his mugshot, has been charged with a felony count of involuntary manslaughter, according to Chicago police.
According to reports, Bell, 19, was visiting the area when she was fatally shot in the Chicago neighborhood of Chatham on Friday after 9:30 p.m.
Hodges turned himself in to officers about 4:05 a.m. Saturday and was charged, police said. The shooting is believed to have been domestic-related, reports FOX32.
Hodges is due in Central Bond Court on Monday.
Police say, officers responded to the 8100 block of South Maryland Avenue on the report of shots fired. When police arrived at the residence they discovered Bell suffering from gunshot injuries.
Officials say Bell was discovered fatally shot in the head inside a bedroom.
Bell was pronounced dead on the scene of gunshot injuries.
WGN reports that Bell was home on winter break from Michigan State University. Police have a suspect in custody and charges are pending.
Authorities said the shooting was possibly domestic-related.
