MACON, GA. (THECOUNT) — David Vazquez has been identified as the suspect shot by a China Inn restaurant worker after an attempted Macon, Georgia robbery Saturday night.

Vazquez, 27, is being held without bond in the Bibb County Jail after officials say he tried to rob the eatery on Saturday night.

According to the Bibb Sheriff’s Office, Vazquez entered the restaurant around 9:30 p.m. and displayed a handgun, pointing it at employees. He then demanded employees empty the cash register.

That’s when an employee pulled a “permitted pistol” and pointed it back at Vazquez.

As Vazquez was fleeing the business, deputies say he started firing in the directions of the workers.

The unidentified worker fired back, striking Vazquez in the right leg.

The eatery is located at, 3268 Vineville Ave in Macon, GA.

Deputies say Vazquez later showed up to the Medical Center Navicent Health. After he was treated for his gunshot wound, he was arrested by Bibb Sheriff’s Office Investigators, reports WGXA.

No charges are being filed against the clerk. No one else was injured in the attempted robbery.

Vazquez is being charged with armed robbery.
