MUNCIE, IN. (THECOUNT) — Joann David of Muncie, Indiana, has been identified as the victim in a fatal house fire Sunday morning in Muncie, according to reports.
David, 62, was killed early Sunday when a fire broke out in her home in the Wilson School Apartments building located near South View Elementary School.
According to officials, fire personnel responded to calls of a structure fire at at 301 W. 13th St. in Muncie around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, according to Delaware County Coroner.
Officials believe that the fatal blaze was the result of an accident involving a lit cigarette.
Mead said the victim’s clothing caught on fire. A sprinkler system fairly quickly put the blaze out, and damage was limited to the immediate area where her body was found, reports TheStarPress.
David was using oxygen at the time of the fire, the investigator said.
An autopsy would be conducted Sunday to determine an exact cause of death.
