BERNE, IN. (THECOUNT) — Fort Wayne, Indiana woman, Nicole Walker, has been identified as one of two individuals killed Saturday morning near Berne. Robert Kinley, of Berne, has been identified as the second victim.
Adams County Coroner Leslie Cook said, Walker, 31, and 65-year-old Kinley, were both killed after involved in a head-on crash after 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
Both victims were pronounced dead on the scene following the violent collision at 11:51 a.m. Saturday.
According to a news release by Sheriff Dan Mawhorr, the accident occurred when a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze, operated by Walker, was traveling southbound on U.S. 27, near C.R. 350S, at a high rate of speed. Walker attempted to pass another southbound vehicle, crashing head-on into a northbound 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck, operated by Kinley, reports DecaturDailyDemocrat.
The Berne Police Department, Geneva Police Department, Indiana State Police, Berne Fire Department and Adams County EMS assisted at the scene.
Mawhorr said speed and improper passing are believed to be factors in the crash.
This accident remains under investigation.
