JEFFERSONVILLE, OH. (THECOUNT) — Jonathon Richards, of Milford, OH, has been identified as the victim killed after fleeing police on-foot on I-71 during a DUI arrest early Saturday.

Richards, 31, was suspected of driving while impaired when he ran away from troopers while he was being arrested along Interstate 71. He was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer, the State Highway Patrol said.

The crash shutdown the southbound lanes of I-71 for nearly five hours early Saturday.

Troopers say they conducted a DUI stop on Richards in Fayette County and were placing him under arrest for driving while impaired and on outstanding warrant when he broke free and ran into traffic.

Richards was struck by a tractor-trailer driven by an Indiana man.

The crash remained under investigation, reports Dispatch.
