ANCHORAGE, AK. (THECOUNT) — Caleb Rockafield, of Saint Germain, WI, has been identified as the victim fatally shot by his roommate in Anchorage, AK, on Tuesday night, according to Anchorage officials Thursday.
Rockafield, 20, was shot by his roommate, 22-year-old Samuel J. Fair, of Jber, who is now facing homicide charges, say police.
The East Anchorage gun death occurred when the victim’s roommate was handling a rifle and it discharged at their residence.
Police initially responded to the report of a gunshot victim around 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday at the 5400 block of E 26th Ave, near E Northern Lights Blvd.
Their preliminary investigation found that Fair was handling the gun when it fired, striking Rockafield in the upper body.
When police arrived, they found Rockafield suffering from a gunshot injury in the home. He was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of gunshot injuries.
The suspect was charged with Assault I and Reckless Endangerment and more charges may be added, reports KTUU.
