GUILFORD COUNTY, NC. (THECOUNT) — The father of Noah Chambers has confirmed that his son was pronounced brain dead and subsequently passed away Sunday afternoon, according to reports.

The grandmother of Noah Chambers, the 11-year-old boy struck by a hit-and-run vehicle while trick-or-treating, says he will be taken off of life support Sunday morning, unless one final brain scan shows signs of recovery.

The family was asking everyone to pray for a miracle.

“They did the brain scan at 7 o’clock tonight, and it was not a success. His brain is not interacting or responding to anything at all,” Renea Smith, Noah Chambers’ grandmother, report WTSP.

“They are going to do one more test in 12 hours to see if anything has changed. And if not, they are going to take [Noah] off the ventilator,” Smith said. “He is on a breathing machine right now helping him breathe, because he cannot breathe on his own.”

Chambers was identified as boy who, as for now, remains on life support after being hit by a driver in Guilford County during the Friday night Trunk-or-Treat event, NC State Highway Patrol confirmed.

Chambers was attempting to cross the road around 7:13 p.m. in 8400 block of Haw River Road in Oak Ridge, NC, near Bethel United Methodist Church, when he was struck by a vehicle.

Saturday morning, a family told local media, “It’s not good but we are continuing to pray that God will heal Noah. We need a miracle.”

Troopers investigating the accident Friday night asked that people “pray for the family.” According to authorities, Noah remains in critical condition at Brenner Children’s Hospital.

First Responders on the scene told WFMY the driver who hit the boy did stop and remained on the scene during the investigation.
