JEFFERSON COUNTY, WV. (THECOUNT) — Clinton Powers, of Inwood, WV, has been identified as one of two victims in a small airplane crash in Jefferson County Thursday night, the Middleway Volunteer Fire Company confirmed.
Powers, 70, a former United Airlines 767 pilot, was killed along with Randy Garcia, 67, also from Inwood WV, after a small plane in which they were traveling crashed and burned on Thursday night in Jefferson County.
Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash of the 1960 Mooney single-engine aircraft.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the FAA and NTSB.
The crash occurred early Thursday evening on Hawthorne Avenue near Summit Point in Jefferson County, West Virginia. Jefferson County Sheriff Pete Dougherty initially confirmed the plane caught fire on impact, reports WTRF.
The FAA, West Virginia State Police and the National Transportation Safety Board are all handling the investigation.
According to Facebook, Powers was originally from Denver, Colorado. He also flew of Hawaiian Airlines, according to Facebook.
