LOS ANGELES, CA. (THECOUNT) — Van Halen guitarist, Eddie Van Halen, has been quietly traveling between the United States and Germany to receive treatment for throat cancer, TMZ is reporting.

According to reports, Van Halen has been traveling to Germany over the last 5 years to undergo radiation treatment that, for the most part, has been successful in keeping the deadly disease in check.

As for the mega-guitarist’s condition, there are lots of rumors swerling, but people who know him say he’s seems to be doing okay, at least on the surface, reports TMZ.

As for how Van Halen developed the cancer, he believes it’s from a metal guitar pick he used more than 20 years ago. Seems he would hold the pick between his lips while performing tapping moves.

Van Halen was a years-long chain smoker.

Back in 2000, shortly after he was diagnosed, doctors removed around 1/3 of his tongue.

Van Halen was diagnosed nearly 20 years ago. Over the years there were times some of the cancer cells migrated down to his throat, and doctors would scrape them out.
