LINCOLN, NE. (THECOUNT) — Joseph Francis Cimino Jr., has been identified as the suspect shot dead after ramming his vehicle into a Chick-fil-A restaurant in south Lincoln, Nebraska Tuesday afternoon, according to reports.
Cimino, 48, was shot dead after police responded to calls of a vehicle that had crashed into a building around 1 p.m. Tuesday, officials said. The popular eatery is located on S 27th St in Lincoln.
According to witnesses, a disgruntled customer “went off” flipping tables and chairs before storming out of the restaurant that was in full lunchtime rush hour mode. The suspect then allegedly entered a pickup truck and drove it into the building Tuesday afternoon.
A law enforcement officer who happened to be waiting in the drive-thru lane at some point confronted the man, telling him to calm down, a store employee said.
When the suspect refused to follow commands, the officer opened fire fatally striking the suspect at least one time, witnesses said from the scene.
Lincoln police investigating said there is no outstanding threat to the public.
