COLUMBUS, OH. (THECOUNT) — Bernard Stoops Jr., has been identified as the victim fatally shot by his stepbrother in what he claims was an alcohol-fueled accidental shooting in Columbus, Ohio Friday night.

Stoops, 49, was discovered injured on the westside of Columbus after officers responded to a call of shots fired on South Harris Avenue, in Columbus after 8:30 p.m. Friday night.

When officials arrived, they found Stoops laying in a pool of blood suffering from apparent fatal gunshot wounds.

Stoops was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of gunshot injuries.

Officers arrested 45-year-old Michael Tennihill. According to the police report, Tennihill told officers he was drinking in the afternoon and was “playing” with a loaded firearm when he accidentally discharged the weapon striking his “stepbrother,” reports 10TV.

Tennihill is charged with reckless homicide.

The deadly incident remains under investigation.
