NASHVILLE, TN. (THECOUNT) — “As I try to write this I don’t know what to say,” said Gospel singer Josh Turner said in a statement posted to Facebook nearly one week after a crash killed a member of his road crew.
The tour bus carrying the crew the musician, that was involved in a fatal accident last Wednesday, has taken the life of longtime sound engineer, David Turner, according to Friday reports.
“It’s a struggle to put into words the devastation and grief that our road family is trying to process. We lost a beloved member of our team, David Turner. He was like a brother to so many in this industry and a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Please continue to keep David’s family in your prayers.
All of our crew suffered significant injuries and many have long roads to recovery. I would ask that you give them privacy during this time.
Many of you have asked where you can support the guys and their families. My management company has created a Go Fund Me page for our road family for anyone wishing to contribute. https://www.gofundme.com/f/JTcrewdonations
Your prayers have been felt. Please keep praying.”
David is not related to the gospel singer.
Turner’s crew bus veered off the highway last Wednesday night and careened over a cliff causing David Turner, 64, to be ejected.
Seven others were injured during the violent crash in California.
Due to the accident, Turner’s team says the remainder of the country star’s September shows have been canceled and will be rescheduled for a later date.
David Turner worked for the “Your Man” singer for nearly 14 years. Previously he worked for artists like Patty Loveless, Tammy Wynette, Baillie and the Boys and Eddie Rabbitt.
The rest of the injuries range from major to moderate. The driver of the bus has been identified as 39-year-old Bradley Dratnol. He was among those injured, but it’s not known to what extent, reports BigCountry969.
Turner has yet to comment about the accident on social media.
According to the Associated Press, Turner’s crew bus was involved in the crash on Wednesday night in central California. One person was killed and several others injured.
The AP reports that Turner’s crew bus was headed eastbound on Highway 46 in San Luis Obispo County, near Cambria, when it crashed in Shandon, Calif., late Wednesday night.
Two people sustained major injuries, while five more sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Turner and his band members were not on board the bus at the time of the crash, according to KHAK.
