NEWBERRY, SC. (THECOUNT) — Sharonda Sims, the woman who was facing 2018 charges including breach of peace and unlawful carrying of a pistol, has been identified as the victim in a fatal Newberry shooting on Tuesday.

The Newberry County coroner’s office identified Sims, 40, as the woman found shot dead in a ditch Tuesday morning.

The coroner’s office ruled her death a homicide.

According to Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster, around 3 a.m. Tuesday morning, people living in the 2000 block of Drayton Street just outside the City of Newberry heard several gunshots in front of their home.

Sims was pronounced dead at the scene of gunshot injuries.

Law enforcement said that there were several shell casings located in the area.

In 2018, Sims was arrested after found with an assault weapon and ammunition. Another semi-automatic handgun was also recovered from her vehicle.
