LOS ANGELES, CA. (THECOUNT) — Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek announced on the Tuesday broadcast of “Good Morning America,” that he is undergoing another round of chemotherapy.
Trebek revealed he lost a large amount of weight and his numbers skyrocketed right after finishing his first round of treatment for stage 4 pancreatic cancer, reports WESH.
“I was doing so well. And my numbers went down to the equivalent of a normal human being who does not have pancreatic cancer. So we were all very optimistic. And they said, ‘Good, we’re gonna stop chemo, we’ll start you on immunotherapy,'” he said before, “I lost about 12 pounds in a week. And my numbers went sky high, much higher than they were when I was first diagnosed. So, the doctors have decided that I have to undergo chemo again and that’s what I’m doing.”
Trebek had returned to taping “Jeopardy!” a few weeks ago after initially announcing his cancer diagnosis in a video message in March.
In May, Trebek announced that he had been doing so well that his doctors had declared him “near remission.”
“It’s kind of mind-boggling,” Trebek told People magazine at the time. “The doctors said they hadn’t seen this kind of positive result in their memory … some of the tumors have already shrunk by more than 50 percent.”
The survival rate for those with Trebek’s kind of cancer is 9%, and he said the news that he may be beating the odds left him emotional.
On July 6, Trebek told viewers he had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, according to reported by TMZ.
Trebek, 78, said he plans to attempt to finish out this season of “Jeopardy!,” reports the gossip outlet.
Sources connected to Trebek told TMZ, the TV game show legend was just informed of the diagnosis. He recorded a video message announcing the news.
