CLEARWATER COUNTY, MN. (THECOUNT) — Rice lake woman, Emily Stevens has been identified as the pedestrian fatally struck while on 340th Street in Clearwater County Thursday night, according to reports.

Stevens, 28, was on-foot when she was struck and killed by a vehicle near Bagley Shooting Star Casino after 8 p.m. Thursday, according to the Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office.

Reports from drivers began coming in at 8:19 p.m. about a woman walking along 340th Street, west of the Bagley Shooting Star Casino, reports DuluthNewsTribune Friday morning.

When the deputy arrived they observed a vehicle driving slowly and then pull off to the side of the road, the sheriff’s office said.

The deputy attempted to make contact with the driver, who then said they thought they had just hit something in the road, possibly a deer.

Authorities discovered the vehicle had struck Stevens, who had reportedly been laying in the road, the sheriff’s office said.

The driver’s name was not released.

Unsuccessful lifesaving measures were performed on Stevens.

She was transported to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.

It is unclear if anyone was cited at the scene.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the matter.
