CHICO, CA. (THECOUNT) — Anthony Mahr has been identified as the body recovered from the Sacramento River in the Chico area on Thursday, according to the Butte County Sheriff’s Office.

Mahr, 22, who was reported missing on Aug. 20, was found in the river after detectives responded to Scotty’s Boat Landing in Chico on reports of a man in the water.

A local fisherman reported seeing a body in the river, officials said.

Crews were able to recover the body at around 10:40 a.m. about a quarter mile upstream from Scotty’s Boat Landing, the sheriff’s office said, reports KCRA.

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office said that Mahr was a Chico State student and originally from Roseville.

The sheriff’s office is still investigating and the cause of death is unknown.
