TAMPA BAY, FL. (THECOUNT) — Rescue divers are frantically searching in the water off the Howard Frankland Bridge after at least one vehicle entered the bay during a Wednesday morning crash.
First responders are searching for victims after a vehicle exited the Interstate 275 and plunged from into Tampa Bay during a crash Wednesday morning.
Florida Highway Patrol said the multi-car crash happened on the southbound side of the highway.
All lanes are currently closed, and traffic is being redirected onto the inside shoulder.
U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Ayla Kelley confirmed at least one car was in the water. The Coast Guard sent a boat from its station in St. Pete. That vessel is assisting local law enforcement units, reports WTSP.
It’s unclear if anyone was hurt or if anybody involved in the crash is still in the water.
