ELKO, NV. (THECOUNT) — – A mining bus filled with workers collided head-on with a semi-tractor Saturday morning on the road leading to gold mines north of Carlin.
At least two fatalities and multiple critical injuries have been reported.
The collision occurred at about 6:35 a.m. in the canyon on State Route 766, which leads to several mines operated by Nevada Gold Mines.
Two fatalities have been confirmed, according to trooper Jim Stewart with the Nevada Highway Patrol. He did not know if they were from the bus or the truck, reports ELKODaily.
More than a dozen people were injured, some seriously, he added. Multiple air and ground ambulances were responding to the scene on the Eureka County side of the line.
The road is closed until further notice.
Miners are bused to the region’s gold mines in shifts, mostly through contract bus operator Coach USA.
Nevada Gold Mine officials were not immediately available for comment.
