EAST ST. LOUIS, IL. (THECOUNT) — Illinois State Police trooper Nick Hopkins has died in an area hospital after being shot while serving a warrant in East. St. Louis early Friday morning.

Hopkins, 33, was identified by police in an afternoon press conference as a 10-year veteran with ISP. He was married with three children.

Trooper Hopkins was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and died at around 6:10 p.m.

Three suspects were taken into custody but have not been identified by officials.

The incident deadly occurred near Washington Park.

The incident occurred near 1426 North 42nd Street and Caseyville Ave where several police agencies including Illinois State Police, East St. Louis Police and tactical units were observed on the scene of the Friday officer-involved shooting.

The officer’s condition was not provided by officials.

The Illinois State Police confirms that while serving a warrant at the home the officer was shot during execution, reports FOX2NOW.

Police have taken several people into custody, but no arrests have been made at this time.
