DOLTON, IL. (THECOUNT) — Marshia McGill, the Dolton, Illinois woman who was randomly shot in the head while driving her children home from daycare Wednesday, has died in an area hospital.
McGill, 40, was pronounced dead Friday of gunshot injuries, according to reports.
McGill was operating a vehicle on Sibley Boulevard and had just picked up her children from daycare, when someone in another vehicle fired shots into the vehicle around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
After the shooting, McGill lost control of her vehicle and veered off the road before crashing near Thornridge High School.
McGill was transported to an area hospital in critical condition on Wednesday.
Sources said McGill was not the intended target and may have been caught in gang-related crossfire, according to WGNTV.
The children were not injured.
The investigation is ongoing.
