ELIZABETHTON, TN. (THECOUNT) — Dale Earnhardt fans showed concern for the driver Friday on social media after it was announced he would be canceling all appearances, including NASCAR raceday activities throughout the weekend.

Earnhardt fans questioned reporting on the extent of the driver’s injuries after it was announced he would not be apparening in public for the foreseeable future.

The private jet carrying the NASCAR legend and his family exited the runway and crashed shortly after takeoff in Tennessee. The jet then burst into flames.

A look at the charred aftermath raised concerns among fans who wondered out loud, how the crash was even survivable, much less the family escaping with reportedly “minor injuries.”

Elizabethton Fire Chief Barry Carrier said everyone on board survived the crash but did not elaborate as to the extent of the injuries.

Carter County Sheriff Dexter Lunceford said Earnhardt Jr., his wife, Amy, and their child were on board, along with a pilot, one other person and a family dog.

Earnhardt Jr. was taken to Johnson City Medical Center. The sheriff says the racing star was conscious and talking, WESH.

No serious injuries are being reported. Everyone left the scene with cuts and abrasions, Lunceford said.

Airport Manager Dan Cogan told the station that the plane ran off the runway at the Elizabethton airport and caught fire.
