HOUSTON, TX. (THECOUNT) — Houston police say someone set off firecrackers inside of the Memorial City Mall, causing shoppers to panic in fear of an active shooter situation, on Sunday.

The incident occurred before 4 p.m. local time and shortly later the Houston Police Department confirmed on Twitter that an active shooter was not located at the mall.

Twitter user Valeria claims he was present during the incident saying the suspect jumped on a table in the food court and yelled threats to mall goers within earshot.

“Wtf is wrong with this world me and my cousin were sitting down eating at memorial city mall in Houston and some guy gets up on the table and starts threatening everyone and we all had to run out… we rlly live in a fucked up world”

Officers were “continuing a diligent search of the area,” reports WTHR.
