Baton Rouge Lawyer Stephanie Gettys Leads Cops On Chase Monday Night In DUI Arrest

BATON ROUGE, LA. (THECOUNT) — Baton Rouge, LA, lawyer, Stephanie Gettys, allegedly lead police on a chase in a black Mercedes Benz SUV on Monday that resulted in her being arrested and charged for a long list of infractions, including, open container and aggravated flight from an officer.

Gettys, 50, the wife of prominent Baton Rouge power-attorney, Lawrence Gettys, is now facing charges including operating a vehicle while intoxicated, use of certain wireless telecommunications devices for text messages, simple obstruction of a highway of commerce, possession of alcoholic beverages in a motor vehicle, reckless operation of a vehicle, and the aforementioned, aggravated flight from an officer.

According to officials, a Louisiana State Police trooper was patrolling on LA 42 and I-10, near the Highland Lakes area, when he observed a black Mercedes Benz SUV in the left turn lane. The light had turned green, but the driver failed to proceed.

That was when the trooper noticed the driver, later identified as Gettys, was “busy typing on the phone” and not paying attention to the traffic light.

According to the arrest report, the trooper tried to get Gettys’ attention by calling to her. Once the light had turned red, the trooper approached the vehicle. The trooper knocked on the window multiple times before Gettys looked up from her phone, reports WBRZ.

That’s when Gettys put the pedal to the metal and fled the scene and a pursuit ensued.

Things ended in the 18800 block of St. Claire Drive.

During the interview, the responding trooper detected the odor of alcohol on Gettys’ breath. While searching the vehicle, an open bottle of booze was recovered.
