BARBOURSVILLE, WV. (THECOUNT) — Chance Gibson, of Huntington, West Virginia, has been identified as the teenage pedestrian fatally struck along a Barboursville highway Friday.

Gibson, 16, was struck and killed early Friday morning while on-foot in the area of Big Ben Bowen Highway around 4 a.m. Friday morning, according to reports.

The teenager was allegedly struck by a GMC pickup truck Friday on Big Ben Bowen Highway near W.Va. 2 in the Barboursville area.

It is unknown why the young man was walking in the roadway, however, someone familiar with the situation said he was walking to work when he was fatally struck by the pickup.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.

Gibson was wearing all black clothing and was in the northbound lane of traffic when he was struck. Heavy fog was also reported in the area at the time, reports HeraldDispatch.

Officials said no charges will be filed against the driver, who was not believed to have been speeding and passed all drug and alcohol tests. No one was cited at the scene.
