SC Pipe Bombs Detonate Outside Pickens Courthouse Blasting Out Windows Causing Damage Monday

PICKENS, SC. (THECOUNT) — A pair of twin blasts detonated near an exterior wall of the courthouse on Court Street in downtown Pickens, South Carolina Sunday night.

In a post shared to the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, Chief Travis Riggs said two hazardous devices were intentionally detonated near the department’s HVAC units.

The devices appeared to be homemade pipe bombs, according to the post, reports GreenvilleOnline.

Police said so far the investigation shows the devices detonated around 11:15 p.m. and caused major damage to glass windows on the lower level of the building.

Luckly, no injuries were reported.

Investigators continued to inspect damage, collect evidence and process the scene as of Monday morning, the Facebook post read.

Police said routine operations in the courthouse may not be disrupted.

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad is assisting in the investigation along with the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office and federal agents from ATF.
