PELLA, IA. (THECOUNT) — Tyson T. Marshall, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has been identified as the victim in a 4th of July drowning at Lake Red Rock.

Marshall, 27, drowned on Thursday while swimming at the lake, located at 1007 Hwy T15, Pella, IA, in the Elk Rock State Park, in Knoxville.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to calls of a swimmer in distress after 6:00 p.m. Thursday from the North Overlook Beach at Lake Red Rock.

According to the person reporting, Marshall was swimming outside the designated swimming area when he went under the water and failed to resurface.

Emergency crews responding to the scene discovered Marshall about 20 minutes later.

He was pulled out of the water and medics attempted life-saving measures.

Marshall was transported to a Pella area hospital where he was pronounced dead after 7:00 p.m.

An autopsy is being performed by the State Medical Examiner’s Office, according to WHOTV.
