NY Man Matt Eskel ID’d As Victim In Tuesday Morning Fatal Ohio BMW DUI Crash

CLARK COUNTY, OHIO. (THECOUNT) — Matthew W. Eskeli IV, of Falconer, New York, has been identified as the victim in a fatal crash on I-70 east in Clark County Tuesday morning.

Eskeli, 20, a former Falconer HS Honor Society student, was operating a Ford traveling on I-70 east around 2:30 a.m. when a BMW being driven by Mark Terrell struck the side of the Ford.

Alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash, according to OSHP.

Eskeli was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead on multiple blunt force trauma injuries.

The collision caused the Ford to exit the highway and strike an exit sign and light pole. The vehicle rolled over before landing on its side, according to OSHP.

Two passengers in the Ford, Zach B. Cooper, 21, of Brockport, New York, and Benjamin E. Cooper, 22, of Corning, New York, were taken to area hospitals. Zach Cooper was transported to Springfield Regional Hospital with life-threatening injuries before he was taken to Miami Valley Hospital by medical helicopter.

Benjamin Cooper was taken to Springfield Regional Hospital for precautionary reasons, according to the OSHP.

There were two people in the BMW. Neither were reportedly injured in the crash.

Terrell, 37, was booked into jail on vehicular homicide and tampering with evidence, but charges have not been formally filed, reports WHIO.

The crash remains under investigation.
