PHOENIX, AZ. (THECOUNT) — Kensley Cody Dayzie has been identified as the Arizona man facing a second-degree murder charge after crashing a car into a Phoenix canal. The crash killed his passenger, Daria Quimayousie, Thursday night, according to officials.

Dayzie, 26, was operating a Chevrolet Impala with his passenger, Quimayousie, 27, when the fatal crash occurred after 11 p.m. Thursday.

Dayzie was traveling on Durango Street at a high rate of speed when the vehicle lost control and crashed near 35th Ave and rolled over into a canal. The vehicle came to rest on its roof trapping Quimayousie inside.

Police say when officers arrived on scene, Dayzie was out of the car but Quimayousie was still trapped.

Officials say once they gained access to the car, Quimayousie was declared dead at the scene of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.
