WASHINGTON, DC. (THECOUNT) — False rumors of shots fired sent people into a panic during the Washington, DC Pride Parade on Saturday. And in New Orleans, a man was arrested while carry a real gun on Saturday.
The panic caused in DC was said to have been started by a false belief that a gun had been fired during Saturday’s festivities. That rumor sent people running through the streets of the nation’s capital on Saturday evening, city officials confirmed.
Police said seven were transported to area hospitals. Some individuals who fled sustained minor injuries, according to officials.
“As the officers were going to the scene, there was a crowd of people going away from it and some of the individuals in the crowd said there was a man with a gun and that someone had fired a shot,” said Guillermo Rivera, reports KABC.
In New Orleans, a 25-year-old man stands accused of bringing a loaded gun to the Saturday New Orleans Pride parade, according to New Orleans police.
Cody Jackson was arrested on one count of illegal possession of weapons at a demonstration after he was seen with a gun within 1,000 feet of the parade route. No shots were fired and no threats were made, reports Fox8Live.
