FORT WORTH, TX. (THECOUNT) — Texas family members are mourning the sudden and unexplained death of “fit and healthy” Fort Worth couple, David and Michelle Paul, who died under mysterious circumstances after falling seriously ill while on a once in a lifetime holiday in Fiji.

David and Michelle, who shared a two-year-old son, fell ill sometime after arriving on the tropical island between May 22 and 25.

Family members, caring for the couple’s child, say they are particularly shocked at their sudden death because they were both “fit and healthy.”

Michelle’s sister-in-law Tracey Calanog said David had been in the air force and his wife, who was a former popular high school student athlete.

“Very physically fit. Former Air Force. Former student-athlete,” Calanog said.

“They knew something was going on in their body and were able to get to the hospital,” reported yahoo.au on Monday.

The cause of the couple’s death has yet to be revealed and remains under investigation.

The family have speculated they may have been affected by a deadly virus.

Family members were able to track down the couple’ dog, Zooey, who had been boarded at an unknown kennel before they left.

Calanog said she eventually located the animal after calling on help from local community members via social media.
