PASADENA, CA. (THECOUNT) — A suspect wearing a bulletproof vest and holding a high capacity firearm was shot and killed by Pasadena police Friday evening.

Pasadena police officers were called to home in the 1500 block of Glen Avenue at about 6:30 p.m. to investigate a report of a man with a gun. When officers arrived, they located the heavily armed suspect standing within the fence of a yard.

The suspect yelled at the officers then pointed the gun at them and that’s when the officer-involved shooting occurred, the Sheriff’s Department says. The suspect then went to the back of the yard and out of the officers’ view but police eventually located him unresponsive and suffering from at least one gunshot wound, report FoxLA.

The unidentified suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators found a rifle with a large capacity drum style magazine and a handgun near the suspect and there was evidence to support he had fired at least one round, the Sheriff’s Department said.

The investigation is ongoing.
