NASHVILLE, TN. (THECOUNT) — Johanna Martin-Mateo has been identified as the victim in a fatal crash in South Nashville Wednesday night.
Martin-Mateo, 18, was operating in a Chevy pickup truck, when for unknown reasons, crossed centerlines and exited the roadway. The vehicle continued and struck a substantial tree.
The pickup was carrying 4 passengers, a 4-month-old girl and her mother and another individual and 10-month-old boy, Martin-Mateo’s son.
The children were in car seats but police say it appears the seats were not properly secured or the children properly secured in the seats, reports Fox17.
The 4-month-old girl suffered life-threatening injuries and is being treated at an area hospital.
Metro Nashville Police say Martin-Mateo was not wearing a seatbelt.
Martin-Mateo was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.
Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors, according to officials.
