Scott Weiland Wife Massive Tax Lien As IRS Claim Singer Failed To Pay Federal Income Taxes 2012-2014

LOS ANGELES. CA. (THECOUNT) — The IRS has levied a federal tax lien against the estate of late STONE TEMPLE PILOTS singer Scott Weiland. The lien lists his ex-wife, Mary Forsberg Weiland, as his representative.

The IRS is alleging Scott failed to pony up $818,569.62 in federal income tax from 2012 to 2014 after federal tax authorities filed the lien one week before the tax deadline.

Via blabbermouth: The troubled frontman’s estate has been plagued with debt ever since he died of an accidental overdose in December 2015 while on tour with his solo band. Since his death, his family has been tasked with getting his memorabilia and possessions appraised to help cover what’s owed.

Last year, Weiland’s estate was hit with a lien by the California State Tax Franchise Board for almost $250,000. The estate was also ordered by a judge to pay $4,000 a month to the late STONE TEMPLE PILOTS singer’s children.

The two children’s mother, Mary Weiland, filed court documents stating that his estate has a value of about $1.6 million with an average annual royalties income of almost $265,000.

A January 2016 report from Billboard revealed that Scott was dealing with hepatitis C, mental illness and the knowledge that both his parents had cancer in the final months of his life. The article featured interviews with Scott’s widow Jamie, his mother Sharon, his WILDABOUTS bandmates Tommy Black and Nick Maybury, tour manager Aaron Mohler and others.

Weiland was found dead on his tour bus in December 2015 at the age of 48 from a toxic mix of drugs and alcohol. The vocalist was also dealing with self-medication, estrangement from his children, financial difficulties and a steadily increasing drinking problem. Mohler said: “If I had known he was going to die, I would have taken every bottle away from him and thrown it. Just broke it right there.”

Jamie said that Scott had been experiencing episodes of paranoia and mania caused by bipolar disorder.

She explained: “At one point, it was so bad I had to move out because he was unstable.” Eventually they found a medication that leveled him out, with Jamie adding “For the last couple of years, he was doing pretty great.”

Jamie also opened up in the article about the legal battle with Weiland’s ex-wife Mary over his estate, saying: “I don’t know under what mattress she thinks she’s going to find $2 million, because it sure as shit isn’t here. He was broke.”
